Jason Sheff

In their early days:

Lead vocals were shared by Peter Cetera, Robert Lamm and Terry Kath, depending on the primary writer of the song. Veryrarely, another member would sing lead on their own compositions. As their sound leaned more toward ballads, Cetera became the primary lead vocalist.

Bill Champlin took over some vocal duties after the death of Terry Kath in the late 70s, and Jason Sheff joined Chicago after Peter Cetera left to pursue his solo career in the 80s.

In 1978 Terry Kath, the lead singer of Chicago, was killed by an accidental self-inflicted gun shot wound. The event reportedly took place while he was cleaning his gun.

Actually he died while playing Russian Roulette at a party. He had blanks in the pistol but did not realize that at close range, the gases could also penetrate his skull and kill him. It was an incredibly stupid thing to do and it cost him his life.

Peter Cetera - well not really. For the first few albums including the Chicago Transit Authority - it was Robert Lamm. After the 3rd album I quit listening to them for the most part.
