Wrong! Etta James and Gladys Knight are not contraltos; they are mezzo sopranos. Whoever wrote that needs to go back to Music Theory and voice training. I won't comment on Marian because I don't know who she is. As far as a dramatic contralto: Toni Braxton is the only famous dramatic contralto of any type that I can think of from the last few decades. A very famous coloratura contralto is Anita Baker. Contraltos are rare, so I hope you didn't expect a long list.
