George Elsey was a military advisor to presidents Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman. He was born in February 1918 in California. His career was as follows: He was an officer in the Naval reserve. Through 1941-46 he was a duty officer in the White House Map Room. He was a member of the Special Counsel to the President from 1947-49, and administrative assistant to the President from 1949 to 1951. He went on to be the assistant to the director of the Mutual Security Agency from 1951 to 1953. He served as Vice President of the the American Red Cross from 1958 to 1961, and became the President of the Red Cross from 1970 to 1982.
