Clarence "Satch" Satchell was one of the founders of the band "Ohio Players" which formed out of Dayton, Ohio in 1959. The group's initial members were Robert Ward (vocals/guitar), Marshall "Rock" Jones (bass), Clarence "Satch" Satchell (Saxophone/guitar), Cornelius Johnson (drums), and Ralph "Pee Wee" Middlebrooks (Trumpet/Trombone).

Clarence "Satch" Satchell was one of the most funkiest, profound, eclectic saxophonist ever! In their hit song, "Sweet Sticky Thing" (#33 on the Billboard in 1975), on their "Honey" album, when you listen to him play, he sends chills up and down your spine! Satch hits notes on the scales where none exist, he was that awesome!!! The group was one of the baddest, soulful band of its era during the "70s." Satch died in 1996. Although the Ohio Players' band had many members come and go, "Satch" made his imprint like no other. He was the nucleus of the band and his riveting style of blowing his saxophone permeate musical influences even today!
