Yes indeed a version was recorded by The Wolfe Tones,and a poor version at that.My uncle Joe actually wrote the song in 1970 and the original version is difficult to obtain,but it is by far the best version out there.

Well I can tell you the man who wrote this song was named Eamon C. Not sure who Joe is but I met this man when I was 14 living in Cork.

He escaped prison and was sheltered by my mother/family for 10 months.

It sent shivers through me bones when I saw it on YouTube.
