I think it was Timothy B. Schmidt. His version was played at the end of a movie called, "Cross My Heart." I just watched it. I love that song. Timothy was born in 1947, and his version was also played on "Fast Times At Ridgemont High." Timothy played with the Eagles and Poco. His version sure sounds like the original.
