It was at this recording session that Evans got his stage name from Clark's wife, who asked Evans what his name was. "Well", he replied, "my friends call me 'Chubby'". As he had just completed a Fats Domino impression, she smiled and said, "As in Checker?" That little play on words ('chubby' meaning 'fat', and 'checkers', like 'dominos', being a game) got an instant laugh and stuck, and from then on, Evans would use the name "Chubby Checker".
Chubby Checker goes by Checker (NOT Chubby).
Her name WAS Misty Bass (she had it changed to Williams when she was married I believe). Chubby Checkers daughter was a high school basketball star in the state of Wisconsin. I think she went to Janesville-Parker. She won multiple state titles at the top (big school) level. I remember watching her when I was younger. She was probably the single best girls HS basketball player in Wisconsin's history. She later went to Duke University and played basketball there for some great teams. She reached the final four at least once, but never won a title. I'm not sure what she's doing today.
