The lead guitarist of Metallica is Kirk Hammet. Originally, Grant Lloyd was the lead guitarist in 1981 but he was substituted by Dave Mustaine in 1982 and he was kicked out of Metallica in 1982, and since then Kirk is Metallica's lead guitarist.

NOTE: Dave was kicked out of the band because he was a drunk. He never recorded any songs; he was credited for 4 songs on Kill 'Em All. He was kicked out when he woke up one morning and the rest of Metallica handed him a bus ticket, then he formed Megadeth in 1983. Then Kirk was called to join the band.

NOTE:The 4 songs are The Four Horsemen..Jump In The Fire..Metal Militia..and Phantom Lord

NOTE:Dave made a song called "The Mechanix"(On the first Megadeth album "Killing Is My Business...and Business Is Good!",that is pretty much like The Four Horsemen but sped up and doesn't have the melodic imiddle section in Metallica's The Four Horsemen.

The Mechanix was written by metallica and Dave Mustaine, and played several times live, but when they recorded Kill Em' All (with kirk) the lyrics where changed, an instrumental middle part was included and the name of the song was changed to The Four Horsemen. Dave plays the original metallica song that he co-created.

The Mechanix originally appeared on Metallica's Demo, 'No Life Til Leather' before they made it big.
