Jared Fogle was a 425-lb student at Indiana University in March 1998 when he noticed a sign at the Subway store near his apartment promoting the chain’s “7 under 6” menu – seven submarine Sandwiches, each with six grams of fat or less. Jared had tried other diets but decided to try them out. He ate a 6-inch turkey sub (no oil, mayo or cheese) for lunch and a 12-inch veggie sub for dinner every day for just about a year. Combined with an exercise regime of mainly walking, Jared was able to lower his weight from to 425 to 190 pounds. He appeared in his first national US television commercial for the Subway chain in January 2000 and has continued making commercials for them through the years, often with athletes or children. All promote the message of healthy eating and combating obesity both in adults and children.
