Andy Veliz, a school principal (at the time) wrote and recorded his Texas "hit" song "Lonely Nights Without You" in 1980.

Veliz who grew up singing since the age of 5 and lives in south texas; an area known as the Rio Grande Valley.

He is a graduate of Texas A&M Kingville and has a Masters degree from The University of Texas at Austin majoring in Educational Administration.

Although he was told not to tour because he had to compete in the English market, he went ahead.

He is one only four Mexican-Americans ( from the Rio Grande Valley ) who have had success in the English music business. Others include Freddy Fender, Noe Pro and Balde Silva (of Toby Beau fame).
