Winnie the pooh is by far the most famous of the two. He was created by the author A.A.Milne back in the 1920's, as a character in one of his stories. He named him after a teddy bear owned by his son, Christopher Robin Milne, and then also created the character of Christopher Robin as the child/owner of the imaginary "Pooh Bear" and all of his animal friends that lived in the imaginary "Hundred Acre Wood". Winnie the Pooh was a 50+ MILLION Dollar business by the early 1930's, and that was BEFORE Walt Disney Productions got a piece of the action in the 1960's! With all of the toys, games, lunchboxes, foods, dolls, music, movies, tv shows, clothing, etc... that continues to grow in popularity even today, the little imaginary bear from England, is a multi-BILLION dollar industry that can STILL bring a smile to anybody that has ever heard even of one of Pooh's adventures! Cookie Monster is no slouch though, being one of the famous Muppets of Sesame Street. He came along in the mid-60's, as a creation of Jim Henson, who was doing a commercial for General Foods. Then he appeared in a sketch on The Ed Sullivan Show, but was still just an unnamed "monster" at that time. Finally, in the first episode of Sesame Street, in November of 1969, the little growly monster received his name. But considering the fact that he is probably no higher than the 7th most famous "Muppet" in his own neighborhood, makes it extremely difficult to compete against quite possibly the most famous "Bear" in the whole world, with "Yogi", "Smokey", and "Gentle Ben", bringing up the rear!
