Kirkland Hall is a building on Harvard's campus, named for one of its most important Presidents, John Thornton Kirkland. He was a Princeton, Brown and Harvard graduate with LLDs from each. He administered Harvard's development in the mid-18th century and was largely responsible for raising funds to build three large buildings, open the law school, increase the medical and philosophy departments. His area of expertise was metaphysics. He was my G-6 grandfather. He was also the son of Rev. Samuel Kirkland, whose efforts in the Revolutionary War were praised by George Washington. He founded a school for Oneida Indians, which is now Hamilton College.
