CORRECTION- Carl Carwell is a former Denver, CO resident who not only went to school with several original members of the group, Earth, Wind & Fire, BUT he was also a founding member of FREE LIFE, (Carl Carwell, Philip Bailey, Larry Dunn, Hillard Wilson and Larry Thompson) the GENESIS of what later BECAME Earth, Wind & Fire, and was touted across the independent music circuit as a premier soul/funk band at the tender age of 16. Carwell went on to contribute both credited and uncredited vocals and percussion to Earth, Wind & Fire, on their recordings and live shows for over twenty years. He toured with Earth, Wind & Fire on many occasions, across the globe and was even featured on YouTube links below. Within his musical community, Carwell, along with Earth, Wind & Fire, collaborated with Deniece Williams, The Emotions, and even Diane Reeves, whom all became a very tight-knit musical family for years to come. In 1988, Carwell experienced commercial success as a lead singer of 101 North, with an R&B hit, titled, "So Easy". Carwell stopped performing live with Earth, Wind & Fire in 1996, due to a severe physical illness. Yet, to this day, Carwell shares a very close bond with family member, Philip Bailey, whom he's recorded several albums with (Chinese Wall, Continuation, just to name a few) throughout his career. In fact, Philip Bailey gave a touching, vocal eulogy at the 2004 funeral of Carwell's wife, Jeanette. Their families remain close to this day. Carwell's musical career SHOULD NEVER be discounted, as it spans impressive vocal contributions from 1972 to present day with artists like Elton John, Celine Dion, Rose Royce, George Duke, James Ingram, Sheila E., Stanley Clarke, Julio Iglesias, Boz Scaggs, David Foster, Diane Warren, Patti Labelle, Peabo Bryson and many more. Carwell is known among the industry as one of the best and well-regarded session vocalists around. Carwell's younger sister, Sue Ann Carwell, was discovered by Prince and shares a great record of success in the music industry as a vocalist and songwriter as well.
