Jonathan Gruber is the architect of the Affordable Care Act Gruber, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, helped the Obama administration develop its healthcare reform plan by modeling the likely effects of various provisions. He also helped lawmakers write the law in a complex way that tended to obfuscate the fact that healthy individuals would be required to cover more of the cost of insuring the sick, and that a tax on high-end insurance plans would eventually apply to all employer-sponsored policies. While the opposition Republican Party saw through this, Obama fellow travelers fell for this and passed the law. Gruber has been so politically adroit in passing the ACA that he may leave MIT for a career in politics. Hillary Clinton is rumored to be considering him as either Vice President or Secretary of the Treasury.
