Rev. A.R. Bernard, Sr. is the founder and pastor of the Christian Cultural Center located in Brooklyn, New York. He is also a life-changing force, not only in Brooklyn and in communities all across the country, but the world-at-large. The transformation of culture is at the core of his worldview; to dynamically present and communicate the teaching of Christ in Culture. And whether it is world affairs, politics, pop-culture, the family, etc., he is determined to see and teach a practical approach to life, from a traditional biblical perspective
What started as a small storefront church has emerged into a victorious ministry and nonprofit organization with a membership of over 32,000. In his senior year of high school, Rev. Bernard left the garment district for a job at Bankers Trust Company. Beginning as a clerk in the Consumer Lending Division, his hard work earned him a number of promotions leading to operations specialist in the Consumer Lending Division. While a promising career in finance was thought to be his future, Rev. Bernard left the banking world to answer his calling to full-time ministry in 1979. His practical application of Christian teachings has assisted countless men and women, the world over, with their spiritual growth. Gifted with an audacious, cerebral ability and perfect clarity of articulation, Dr Bernard has a gift for shaping listeners' thought processes with his words as spoken from the word of God.
Dr. Bernard is also the founder of the International Christian Brotherhood, a fraternal organization that seeks to train men in Christ-likeness as the standard for manhood, and Brooklyn Preparatory School (BPS) in New York City. Formed in 1993, BPS is a premiere early education institution dedicated to serving young children in their formative years. He is president of The Council of Churches of the City of New York, the nation's oldest ecumenical organization, representing 1.5 million Protestant, Anglicans and Orthodox Christians. A member of the New York City Economic Development Corporation Board and the New York City School Chancellor's Advisory Cabinet and a part of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's Transition Team in 2001. A lengthy list of accolades includes the most influential New York Clergyman (New York Daily News, February 2008); most influential African American New Yorker (New York Post, February 2008); and one of New York's Most Influential People (New York Magazine, 2006). In 2007, the Consulate General of Israel in New York, Jewish Community Relations Council, and Jewish National Fund honored him with a lifetime achievement award. His television shows, "Faith In Practice" and "A. R. Bernard" air nationally and in New York. Touchstone/Simon & Schuster published his book, Happiness Is… Simple Steps To a Life of Joy.
