Minimalist music was vastly and predominately influenced by the minimalist art movement, however it also contains elements of many other genres. Its stylistic origins are mainly Experimental, Twelve-Tone, and Process Music. Great musicians in the minimalist genre include Philip Glass, Terry Riley, and Steve Reich. I hope this has helped you out.
