Genesis started when two bands at Charterhouse School (in Surrey, England) joined together. The first members were Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford and Anthony Philips. Their first drummer was replaced by Phil Collins, who later became the singer - after Gabriel left. Philips also left, and was replaced by Steve Hackett. touring (but not recording) members were Daryl Stuermer and Chester Thompson.
