The main characters in the first six Harry Potter books are Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, the Weasley family, the Dursleys, Draco Malfoy, Crabbe, Goyle, Albus Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall, Hagrid, Neville Longbottom, Luna Lovegood, Severus Snape, Peter Pettigrew, Voldemort, Mad-Eye Moody, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, Cornelius Fudge and Dobby. There are a wealth of other characters but these are the ones that occur most frequently.
I don't think there is any official list of the "ten main characters", so take your pick. I would say that any such list should include Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Albus Dumbledore, and of course, Tom Riddle. Also, Severus Snape. To complete the list of ten... well, you can take your pick. You might choose among some of the other teachers, Hagrid, some of the students, etc.
The movies in order are Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (or Sorcerer's Stone for the United States and I think also India), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I, and finally Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II.
Seamus Finnigan is six two, in the seventh book.
Harry Potter is not based on an actual person. JK Rowling has been quoted as saying: I had been writing almost continuously since the age of six but I had never been so excited about an idea before. I simply sat and thought, for four (delayed train) hours, and all the details bubbled up in my brain, and this scrawny, black-haired, bespectacled boy who did not know he was a wizard became more and more real to me. The actor who brought Harry to life on the screen is Daniel Radcliffe. Radcliffe played Harry Potter in all of the movies.
The 7th Harry Potter movie was filmed at Leavesden Studios, where the previous six films had been shot, and Pinewood Studios. Both studios are in England.
Sadly no Jk Rowling did not intend more than the 7 in the series although there are more side books in the collection such as fantastic beasts and where to find them, Quittage throught the ages and the tales of beetle the bard.
Just read the book, and you will know...

July 15th
2009 I think .
It is called Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and was published on 16th July 2005.
Book 6 is "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince"; book 7 is "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows".
If you are talking about the six of them they are called Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Neville Longbottom, Ginny Weasley, Luna Lovegood and of course Harry Potter himself!
The series begins when Harry Potter was one year old, it then jumps ahead ten years to him being ten, turning eleven so we never see him as a six year old.
There are seven books: 1. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's (Sorcerer's in USA) Stone 2. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets 3. Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban 4. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 5. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix 6. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 7. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows There are also three supplementary books: 1. Quidditch Through the Ages 2. Fantastic Beasts and Where to find Them 3. Tales of Beedle the Bard
