Horrid Henry's parent's are frankly, horrible. They must have had a hard time dealing with the new responsibilities of being parents. So they took all their frustrations out on Henry. Sure they aren't physically abusive, they keep him fed and clothed and make sure he goes to school. However they emotionally abuse him. Who do you think started calling him Horrid in the first place? His parents. When you tell a child they're horrible they begin to believe it. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. They don't even try to hide they're blatant favoritism for Peter, who really isn't all that nice when you think about it. Henry's saved his life at least several times (Peter even admits it in one episode) Yet what does Peter do in return? He deliberately riles Henry up and gets him into trouble at nearly every occasion. Henry's parent's support everything Peter does, takes him where ever he wants to go, practically bending over backwards for him, showering him with love and affection. What does Henry get? Nill, nothing, ZERO. Most of the time when he does get something it's because his parent's gave it to him because they just want him to shut up. They don't support his interests or take him to the concerts or fairs he wants to go to . I swear I don't think I've heard his parents have ever said the word "Love" in Henry's presence. That's what Henry wants. He wants the love and affection his parents give Peter. So he acts out, lies, steals and runs rampant. It's the only time his parent's acknowledge his existence, when he misbehaves he gets attention. "Horrid Henry" is only "Horrid" because he's acting out, reaching and screaming for help and love but only getting lectured and stepped on by his parents. Horrid Henry is "Horrid" because he's the victim of emotional abuse and bad parenting. I know he may come off like a selfish, spoiled child at times, I didn't see it myself at first. However take a closer look at things and you'll begin to see what I'm talking about.
