Tennant may be the SECOND most popular Doctor for the simple reason that the character he lent to the role provided all the qualities you'd expect in The Doctor- wisdom, charisma, compassion, leadership, humour, quirky eccentricity, kindness, and the ability to make snap decisions in the face of a serious crisis. Few actors who have taken the role have managed to combine all of these factors, it's really only Baker, Tennant and John Pertwee who have succeeded.
