The melody for "Moody's Mood for Love" was 'composed' by James Moody, whose alto sax solo on "I'm in the Mood for Love" (recorded in 1949) became a jazz hit. Eddie Jefferson then wrote lyrics to Moody's sax solo, and titled it Moody's Mood for Love. The first vocal recording was made in 1954 by King Pleasure. The female vocal part on the original King Pleasure recording was Blossom Dearie. Since then, the vocal version of Moody's Mood for Love has become a jazz standard in its own right, and has been recorded by many people. Notable recent recordings include those by Queen Latifah, Brian McNight (with Patti Austin doing the Blossom Dearie part), and Amy Winehouse.
