In The Hobbit why are the dwarves happy and why is Bilbo unhappy?

The dwarves were cheerful because they had finally taken their kingdom of the Lonely Mountain after the great dragon Smaug was defeated by the Lake men. Bilbo was unhappy because when he was back at the shire, he always wished to go back and see the dwarves of the Lonely Mountain and wander the paths of Mirkwood.

What did Bilbo see as he floated along the barrel raft?

Bilbo saw more and more trees in all directions, as well as the sky.

Why does Bilbo tell the dwarves about his magic ring?

Bilbo can see that he and the dwarves are about to be overwhelmed by the spiders and decides he has to disappear in front of them. After they get away the dwarves are bewildered by his turning invisible and must have the story of his escape from Gollum again. Balin in particular feels he is owed an explanation because Bilbo made him look bad earlier when he snuck past Balin on guard.

Why did Bilbo and the dwarves stray from the path?

in the hobbit Gandalf basically pushes him out the door without him really knowing about the whole misson laid out in font of him. all he knows is that gandalf has told the dwarves he is a silent burglar and is perfect for the mission. Bilbo wakes up the next day and is told hes late and is pushed out the door with some haste by Gandalf. since hobbits are humble and don't look for conflict Bilbo simply goes along with it.

What did Bilbo and his companions see on their scouting expedition?

One of them was the fact that none of the dwarves really liked him or trusted him. That is, until after he discovered his Magical Ring.
