The movies as a whole are not really scary, but for arguments sake it would be the fourth movie: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. This would be because Harry is flung into a tournament that is said to have previously caused death. The officials say at the start of the film that no one under the age of seventeen are to put their name forward to be part of the tournament.

It is also scary because we as the audience know that Harry did not put his name into the Goblet of Fire and that someone possibly wants him dead. The three challenges that Harry faces all nearly cost him his life if it wasn't for his strength, knowledge of magic, and in some cases pure luck.

In the end of the movie he is almost killed by Voldemort and is very lucky to escape. The entire movie is dark and you are at the edge of your seat because it always seems as though Harry will never make it.

Depends if you've read the books or not. If you've read the books, it's Order of the Phoenix, no doubt.

I think Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is the worse. It also depends if you read the book or not. It skips a lot of things.

Another opinion

Many people expect the movies to match the books exactly and thus are disappointed by any deviation. Some, while feeling this way, admit that of course it is impossible for a film-maker to squish enormous volumes of information into a mere 2.5 hours of film. People are also disappointed by the 'leaving out' of scenes that were in the books. Other people abhor certain portrayals of various beloved characters. There are many realms of complaint that come from the ardent Potter fan and simple movie-goer alike. To do with volume of information, a great complaint is the 'rushed' feel of some of the movies. All of these phenomena lower the value of some of the films in many a person's opinion. To answer the question, objectively, of worst Harry Potter movie, we will have to examine which film committed the most offensive crimes to the Pottermaniacs and cinema-enthusiasts.

WARNING OF SPOILERS BELOW: In my opinion, the Half Blood Prince is the worst. The special effects are wonderful, the soundtrack acceptable, the acting of all perfectly adequate, the important scenes of Voldemort's secrets as revealed in the Pensieve excellently done as well as the scene of the death of Dumbledore. What spoils the movie of the Half Blood Prince is the endless boredom of dark grey skies and tenebrous alleyways and half-hearted attempts at pathetic love affairs. The darkness of the sky is symbolic of the danger and depression, but it just gets too much.

Irritations that bring down The Chamber of Secrets and The Prisoner of Azkaban is the occasional childish occurrence. Some might be irritated by the screaming of children, others may be irritated by childish apparitions of a transmorphing boggart.

What brings down The Deathly Hallows Part 1 is the length of the wood-haunting wait-scenes between exciting occurrences. Talking of 'leaving things out', it is only really complain-worthy in the later half of the series, and the same goes for 'rushedness'. One really needs more explanation in The Deathly Hallows, rather than just 'funny bangs and smells' as Snape describes wandwork but which means, here, blowing up Hogwarts. Harry Potter should be intellectually, as as visually, exciting.

None of the Harry Potter books gave me a chill except the 3rd and 7th one. The 3rd one was because Ron woke up screaming in middle of the night because Siruis Black had a knife and Ron thought he was going to stab him but he turned out to be good. And the 7th one is really more on the edge of your seat because some people die you don't know if the one you like the most is gonna die, one of the people I loved alot died... But all in all they weren't really that scary, just really good.

Since there are only six out at the moment, I'd have to say the sixth movie (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince). It seems to be the darkest so far however there are some funny bits in it. This answer is probably different to others, but that's my opinion anyway
