As far as I can tell, Marissa meets Alex in "The Ex-Factor" (Season 2, Episode 9 ([Episode 36 overall]). Ryan leaves drunken Lindsay on the beach by herself and she eventually seeks after him. Lindsay ends up running in to Marissa instead, who brings Lindsay back to Alex's office. When Ryan yells at Marissa for being the catalyst in Lindsay's getting drunk, Alex defends Marissa. The two then drop Lindsay off at home and Marissa ends up at Alex's place. However, an introduction never seems to occur between them, so there is a good chance that the audience is supposed to assume that Marissa and Alex already knew of each other's existence because Alex was dating Seth prior and Marissa is essentially in the same circle as Seth.
