Unless I am horribly mistaken Mireille Mathieu is a french ACTRESS and not a singer. One seems to recall there may have been a French aviatrix or stunt-pilot with that name inthe teens or twenties. there was/is an Actress by that name, not to my knwoledge a songstress. CDHunter: You are mistaken. The Mireille Mathieu for which people are asking has been a noted French singer for the last 40+ years (1965 to present). She seldom performs concerts now, but does still perform. Her two last concerts were in Petersburg, Russia, and in Moscow in November 2008. Also, in 2008, she performed a concert each in 25 German cities during a 35 day period in March and April 2008. These concerts were performed with little advanced notice around the world, but were announced on her web site and in Germany. Currently, she is scheduled to perform a concert each in 22 German cities starting in Halle on April 14, 2010, and ending in Berlin in May 14, 2010. It is possible, but not a certainty, that she will have at least one Russian concert in 2009. Additionally, she is scheduled to release a new CD of songs in German in the Fall of 2009. I have read, but have not been able to confirm, that her French record company may release a CD of her 2005 concert at the Olympia in Paris in 2010. There is already a DVD of that concert on sale. As for the meaning of her name, a rough translation is "wonderful gift of God". Mireille roughly meaning "Wonderful or Marvellous", and Mathieu being the French form of "Matthiew" which in ancient Hebrew meant "Gift of Yehweh (God)".
