It was foretold by Sybil Trelawny to Professor Dumbledore. The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches… born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies … and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not … and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives … the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies …

The prophecy in fact referred to two boys born at the end of July: Harry Potter (born 31 July 1980) and Neville Longbottom (born 30 July 1980). While Harry was a half-blood with a Muggle-born mother, Neville was pure-blood, which by Voldemort's creed was the only type of wizard worth knowing.

However, in a move seemingly because he saw himself in Harry, Voldemort (who was himself a half-blood) made his move on Harry on the 31st of October 1981, which was All Hallows Eve. His parents, James and Lily Potter, were both killed in the attack, but sacrificed themselves for their only son. This sacrifice, especially on Lily's part, enabled a shield of protection and love to save Harry from the Dark Lord's Killing Curse that night and protected him until the age of seventeen.

The power that he knows not was revealed in later years to be the power of love, albeit Lily's love for her son, but it could possibly also be referring to Harry's love for his best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, who stood by him throughout the Second Wizarding War, and for his girlfriend (later wife), Ginny Weasley, who was the driving force behind his defeat of Voldemort in 1998.

The prophecy from Harry Potter was that either Harry Potter would kill Lord Voldemort, or Voldemort would kill Harry Potter; one of them was going to kill the other, but the prophecy did not specify which. Of course, by this time we do know how it turns out.

What is the big deal with the prophecy in Harry Potter - Order of the Phoenix?

"The big deal" is that it's what prompted Voldemort to go after Harry in the first place. The prophecy speaks of an enemy with powers to match the Dark Lord's -- that's Harry. Voldemort attacked Harry because of the prophecy, because he believed that the person of whom the prophecy spoke was his one and only threat. No prophecy=no Harry Potter books. ;)

Why does Voldemort hate Harry Potter so much besides the prophecy?

Answer: because he has more power than him Answer: It is all about the prophecy. Voldemort is worried, precisely because of the prophecy, about the possibility that Harry Potter may eventually defeat him.
