For a very long time, I, myself thought Benjamin "Benny" "The Jet" Rodriguez was real. But, then I found out he wasn't real. But I still call myself Mrs. Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez! The Jet stole home!!
Benny Mardones exploded onto the music scene in 1980 and was quickly nicknamed "the Voice" due to his incredible vocal range and soulful, passionate performance of his signature song, Into the Night. The track became an instant nationwide radio classic, topped the charts in both 1980 and 1989, and remains one of the most frequently played tunes in radio history. It is estimated that Into the Night has been played more than 4 million times in the U.S. alone. Benny recorded his number one album, "Never Run, Never Hide," with producer Barry Mraz (Styx, Ohio Players), which featured his multi-platinum single, Into the Night. Though Benny saw steadily increasing album sales and endless radio adds with his Polydor debut, he found that the best way reach his audience was through his electric live performances. In 1983, Benny played a legendary concert at Longbranch Park in Syracuse with more than 12,000 people in attendance. Just two years later, Benny sold-out four shows at the 3,500 seat Landmark Theater, and managed to draw an astounding 24,000 fans to Weedsport Speedway, one of the regions largest venues. In 1989, Benny achieved nationwide success once more when a major Arizona radio station (KZZP) decided to add Into the Night to its playlist six years after the songs initial success. The single quickly became the most requested track on the station, and began garnering interest from radio stations across the country. Through positive word of mouth and persistent fan follow-up, Into The Night eventually established itself once again as the most requested single on radio. Due to the renewed success of his signature song, Benny, signed to Curb Records, recorded an updated version called Into the Night '89. The track appeared on a self-titled release known as "The Blue Album" by his fans. Shortly after the release of his new album, Benny was asked to appear alongside such luminaries as Bob Dylan, John Fogerty, Johnny Cash, and K.D. Lang in a tribute to Roy Orbison. Benny Mardones, to this day, remains a superstar in upstate New York. His live shows have become major events and his fan base continues to grow. Because of Benny's popularity in his hometown, Greg Ross (Go-Kart Records) took it upon himself to make a documentary about Benny's life. The documentary, entitled Into the Night: The Benny Mardones Story, was trumpeted as "a classic" by the Austin Chronicle, and has been wildly received at film festivals all over the country. Benny has connected with producer/label exec, Jim Ervin, and has written and recorded a full album of new material entitled, "Let's Hear It For Love", released on Warrior Records, distributed through Universal Music Group Distribution.
