At breaks in sandbars and other obstacles located near shore.

To escape from a rip current, swim parallel to shore until you are out of the current. Do not try to fight it. Even strong swimmers cannot outswim a rip. Even if you are carried farther out while escaping, you will be able to swim back in with ease once you escape the current, or float until someone comes to rescue you.
