The tattoo machine needs adjustment to the contact screw, armature bar, and springs to function properly.Once the machine is set to a comfortable level for the tattoo artist, the power supply is the next

Insert the tube and needle into the tattoo machine. Attach the clip cord to the back of the tattoo machine and insert the other end of the clip cord into the power supply. Turn on the power supply and tap the foot pedal to hear and ensure that the machine is running.

Turn the knob on the power supply to the right for a high setting. A high setting is best for fleshy areas of the body, such as an inner arm or thigh. This setting will make the needle move faster.

Turn the knob to the left to lower the setting. Use this setting for bony areas of the body, such as a wrist or shin.

Listen to the sound of the machine running at each setting. Fluctuate the settings between high and low until the tattoo machine is running at the speed that will prevent scarring and at the same time keep the tattoo from falling out.

Well that depends on the machine the coil wrap count and what you are doing with the machine, are you shading , lining? Setting up your machine requires you to watch the armature bar and set the machine so it's a clean sound the armature bar should just oscillate slightly when the machine is running. Power settings mean very little other than being a diagnostic tool when the machine is not running right. If the capacitor is toasted or the coils are loose or tired these can all effect how the machine will run and sound.

How do you decide the speed of the tattoo machine?

Each artist finds and performs different settings for their personal machine, allowing the artist to feel comfortable using the machine. The type of skin the client has, along with the size or type of tattoo, determines the setting of the machine and the power supply. Plug in the power supply and attach the cord to the tattoo machine. Place the tube in the tattoo machine and insert the needle in the tube. Tap the foot pedal to ensure the machine is working. Adjust the springs on the tattoo machine to control the depth. Apply pressure with the hand that holds the machine, pressing down into the skin for more depth after adjusting the springs. Turn the voltage of the power supply up to adjust the speed. The more voltage, or higher setting, of the power supply equals a quicker speed. A lower speed is optimal for tattooing bony areas of the body and high speeds for fleshy parts.

How do you use a tattoo gun?

Power is fed from a supply unit to a handheld electromagnet tattoo machine. The cycle of power is fed into the magnets in opposite polarity thereby making a flexed armature bar move upwards and downwards at a fast rate of speed to which a needle is fixed upon. The speed of the needle's movement is regulated by the power supply, and the depth of same is determined by the placement of the tube. The overall tension of the machine is regulated by gap of same from the contact screw to the front spring and the angle of the contact screw plays a major role in the proper running of the machine.

What should your digital power supply read too tattoo outlines?

Hopefully the artist that's teaching you to tattoo has gotten into this, but... There are a lot of things that go into finding the right power setting, from the model of power supply you have to the machine you have hooked to it to the needles you use to the way you tattoo. The only way you're ever going to know is to test it...so go buy a chicken (seriously, a whole raw chicken from the grocery store) and experiment.

How much is tattoo machine cost?

They cost hundreds of dollars. You can go online and find plenty of tattoo machines that cost $25, but you'll get about two pieces out of one of them, and you won't like using them. Also remember: having just a tattoo machine is useless. You also need needle tubes, needle bars (they have the needles at one end and the loop to connect the bar to the armature of the machine on the other), a power supply, sanitation supplies, inks, to know how to tattoo...
