As of my last knowledge update in October 2023, there are no widely reported cases of buildings in the U.S. being condemned specifically due to infestation by calosoma beetles. While calosoma beetles, also known as ground beetles, can be found in various environments, they are generally not known to cause significant structural damage or health concerns that would lead to condemnation. Most infestations can typically be managed through pest control measures without drastic actions like condemning a building.
Caterpillars, fly maggots, grubs, other adult beetles, and pupal insects number among the kinds of insects that Calosomaground beetles eat. The adult and the larval stages of the ground beetles in question receive the nickname "caterpillar hunters" since they are ferocious predators of the larval stage of lepidopterans, insect order including butterflies and moths. They serve as beneficial insects because of their control over such insect predators of edibles, functionals and ornamentals as the Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata).
