Doc Dedham's house was next to Wailua Beach. The house is gone and the property is now a resort condominium. Wailua Beach is located at the mouth of the Wailua River where many of the scenes were filmed; including both the water skiing and canoe segments by cutting and editing the film together. The unique looking trees on Doc Dedhams property were and are surrounding a sacred Hawaiian Heiau (Ancient Hawaiian Place of Worship) which is not visible in the filming of Donovan's Reef. At least not that we have noticed. The now derelict Coco Palms Hotel, made famous by Elvis Presley in Blue Hawaii, is located directly across from Wailua Beach. You can go down the river and see where it was relocated. Its up on the ridge and you can see the back from the river. Take the tour they point it out.
