In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Jane Fonda stated that although she was brought up as an atheist she was raised as a Christian in the church which created a conflicted religious identity, perspective and expression of belief. She didn't formally embrace Christianity until much later in life. She is sometimes described as having converted to Christianity. Her family has religious roots in the Protestant Reformation and more recently in Christian Science.
