News to me, unless ( intelligence gathering) for those teaching CCD ( like Sunday school classes). the more restrictive or cloistered orders would ban TV except possiblu for religious programs- and educational use in the classrooms- such things as Channel l3 and more prosaically documentaries, space shots, etc. ( watergate) Nuns normally do not watch TV!

Not necessarily=- the decline in religious callings has led, or in some case forced the hiring of lay teachers in many Church schools. Brothers ( in a sense ecclesiastical Non-Coms ranking between laymen and Priests- are frequently employed in such roles as teachers, camp counselors, athletic instructors- in short many youth contact roles. The Brothers of the Sacred Heart operated a Camp I attended in New Jersey in l968. Do not confuse with the motion picture ( Brothers In Blood) which would be rated at least PG-l3 and was mistakenly shown at the camp theatre- maybe the guy in charge of film distribution intended this as a practical joke! that"s another story. Priests and Brothers form the faculty in many church schools that are all male. as late as l967 there was a strict gender-line in religious instruction - at the confirmation level- boys and girls were completely segregated- and Girls taught by nuns, Boys by Brothers and/or priests. This was totally ( on board) and there was no measurable resistance.

According to the Mayo Clinic web site the Mayo brothers were Protestant. They worked with Catholic nuns in the beginning in Rochester so I think people assumed they must have been Catholic as well. Also, the name Mayo sounds like the family would be Irish as there is a county Mayo in Ireland. The father of the Mayo brothers immigrated from England, however.
