In fact, it was Melrose 5 5300 and it was a phone number that became a jingle for a New York City department store in the late-1950s into the 1960s. The commercial played a lot in the NYC market during Million Dollar Movie and shows like that and on the radio as well. The store was Sachs Quality Furniture Stores in the Bronx.

For some reason, they preceded that jingle by saying that a long time ago people sang "Silver Threads among the Gold," and now they sing Melrose 5-5300.
