John Lennon was born John Winston Lennon (with "Winston" coming from then-Prime Minister Winston Churchill), but he hated his middle name.

After he married Yoko Ono in 1969, a discussion between the two about how women changed their names for their husbands (she became Yoko Ono Lennon upon their marriage), but men didn't change theirs for their wives, prompted Lennon to change his middle name to Ono.

Under British law he could not technically drop his middle name, but he could add a new one, so he became "John Winston Ono Lennon" for legal purposes (including his "green card" in the United States). He otherwise gave his "full name" as John Ono Lennon, and did so for the rest of his life.
His name is John Winston Lennon

Hence the nickname Dr. Winston O' Boogi
John Winston Lennon which later he took on his wifes name and went by John Ono Lennon.

He had two: Winston and Ono. He hated his original name Winston (after Winston Churchill) and wanted to change it, adopting Ono after he and Yoko Ono discussed how women change their names when they marry men, but not the other way around. He couldn't rid himself of "Winston" under British law, but he could legally add "Ono". He never used the name "Winston" again, unless he had to for legal purposes (such as his green card).

John Lennon was called "the smart one", Paul McCartney "the cute one", George Harrison "the quiet one", and Ringo Starr "the funny one".

The group was sometimes called the "Fab Four" ("fab" coming from "fabulous"); their staff often referred to them as the Fabs privately. (George Harrison later recorded a song called "When We Was Fab", taking a look back at the Beatles years.)
