Fred Weasley dies because it was a war and people die in wars, even good people.

J.K. Rowling originally planned to kill Arthur Weasley in the fifth book, but ultimately decided not to kill him so that Harry would have one father figure left and instead killed off Fred. Killing off good characters unexpectedly makes the series more real.

After Harry, Ron, and Hermione had destroyed the diadem, they ran into Fred and Percy in the Hogwart's halls. They were fighting Death Eaters. Percy was newly reconciled with the family and was cracking jokes along with Fred. Fred was laughing and commenting that he hadn't heard Percy laugh or joke in ages. There was an explosion and the side of the castle was blown away. Hermione and Harry were lifted and blasted into one direction. When they recovered they heard screaming. Ron, Fred, and Percy were against another wall. Percy had realized the explosion had killed Fred. He stayed trying to protect his dead brother, and had to be pulled away to continue fighting. It was never stated in the book who caused the explosion. It was later stated that Augustus Rookwood probably caused the explosion.

Fred Weasley is a fictional character, he doesn't exist in real life. In the series, he is killed when a spell causes a wall to collapse.

The actor who played Fred in the movies, James Phelps, is still alive.

Fred wasn't killed by a spell directly. Augutus Rookwood caused an explosion with an unknown spell which resulted in a wall falling on Fred.

You mean AUGUSTUS Rookwood, do you, not AUGUTUS Rookwood.

Fred Weasley died in a magical explosion created by Augutus Rookwood.

It doesn't appear that it was a spell that got him. A wall collapses and kills him.
