Alan Parsons was originally a recording engineer for EMI records and learned his craft by assisting on "Abby Road" (yes, THAT Abby Road), Time Passages, Dark Side of the Moon, and other popular commercial successes for other artists. The name "Alan Parsons Project" refers to the effort of his first solo album that he was working on with Eric Woolfson. For lack of a better name, it became known as APP... his "project". After creating "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" (inspired by Edgar Alan Poe), the next effort was "I, Robot" inspired by Isaac Asimov. By now, the name of the rotating group of musicians (that changed over time) WAS the Alan Parsons Project. By attracting a major name voice like Alan Clarke of the Rasberrys to record a few lead vocals, the "group" began to command the respect of the recording/performing rock industry, and future endevours became much easier. All in all, the rotating collection of musicians produced ten albums, but later ones were no where near the commercial success of "I, Robot", "Eve", "Pyramid", "Turn of a Friendly Card" and "Eye in the Sky". Recently four more albums have been released, with the jury still out on them.
Alan Parsons is 62 years old (birthdate: December 20, 1948).
