Harry Potter has scar on his head because when he was a baby Lord Voldemort attempted to kill him with a killing curse. However, when his mother died to protect him it backfired on Voldemort and Harry got a scar instead.

There was a magical connection between Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort. The scar hurt whenever Lord Voldemort was near or, even if he was far away, whenever he had strong feelings, whether it be fury or joy. This was because the Horcrux inside Harry Potter could sense Voldemort and was trying to escape.

Because it would be more realistic, and maybe it looked weird in the center of his head. I don't really know. But if you look, it switches sides of his head during some scenes and movies. :P
