Harry Potter has scar on his head because when he was a baby Lord Voldemort attempted to kill him with a killing curse. However, when his mother died to protect him it backfired on Voldemort and Harry got a scar instead.

maybe the makeup artist screwed it up but ive seen all the movies and i always noticed
it on the right side but i could be wrong

The scar hurt whenever Lord Voldemort was near or, even if he was far away, whenever he had strong feelings, whether it be fury or joy. This was because the Horcrux inside Harry Potter could sense Voldemort and was trying to escape.

As Dumbldor said there was deffinetly a connection between Harry and Voldemort, as you have probably noticed in the book "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" Harry could see, and feel what Voldemort saw and felt.
