A good sound technician must have excellent hearing (of course), good eyesight including color differentiation, and a strong attention span. A professional sound technician would benefit from a background in Electronics Engineering, strong computer skills, mathematics up to and including trigonometry and a bachelors of fine arts in theatre tech/design.

Plan to spend a lot of time doing volunteer work on a sound board (churches and community theatres are good places to start) until you can find a paying gig. Any entertainment job requires devotion and the willingness to go through hungry times before being professionally established.
