I know Oprah and Jillian Michaels have overcome some weight obstacles. They struggled with they're weight, and they lost it. Jillian Michaels started Martial Arts when she was about 14, and that's how she lost the weight...I don't know when Oprah overcame her weight.
There's MANY more people who have overcome more obstacles than weight, but these r the people that came off the top of my head.

Some famous people who have overcome obstacles are Helen Keller, she was blind and deaf and from her teacher Annie they were able to teach her sign language. Another person is Anne Frank, she was in hiding during the time of Adolf Hitler, she was able to positive about the situation and not let anyone know about their hiding place. Unfortunately, the soldiers did end up finding her family and they were sent to concentration camps and killed. The third person is Dr. Suess when he wrote his first book he sent it to 23 publishers who all turned him down, but he tried for a 24th time and was able to succeed and now he is one of the best known authors of all time. Last, but not least Bethany Hamilton, she was a surfer who got bit by a shark, the doctors said that she was never going to be able to surf again, but to this day she is an award winning surfer.
ANS 2 - Lance Armstrong comes to mind, and a WW2 British flying ace, Douglas Bader who lost both legs in a flying accident before the war and persevered to become an ace.
But why look only at 'famous' people ? There dozens of severely injured soldiers , British, Canadian, American, and other allies, who return from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq every week. Many have lost legs and often arms in landmine explosions or similar tragic incidents. - Yet they persevere bravely and overcome tremendous obstacles to return to as normal a life as they can. -These are true heroes !
A better question is who wasn't and didn't. Walrus's rarely are famous and tend not to change their ways up til the very end of their lives, lying on their death bed they try to make amens with God in an attempt to put all the shame of their lives to rest and secure a place in Gods glorious kingdom that is Heaven. I know it's a lot to ponder all at once, take it slow, someday you'll understand the virtues I tried to make you understand.
The answer's implicit in your question! Most are famous because they tried hard and succeeded - not perhaps a charge you can level against a lot of so-called "celebrities"! They are famous for their achievements in their own of all walks of life: the arts, engineering, science, the Law, medicine, sports, etc. etc.

He had to overcome a lose of money at first and his childhood was not that great at all.
Vahan Kenderian's experience during the Armenian genocide that began in 1915.
She got burned on her leg while trying to run away from an inferno and when she was exposed and had to seek shelter up in the trees, it took all her strength just to climb.

Michael Jackson Surely did not overcome the loss of his childhood. All his life his urge to actually be a child has never come true. His life growing up was too busy to be a normal child. He was also to famous to go out in public. Michael Jackson did not overcome his childhood loss.
