In the 74th annual Hunger Games, Katniss doesn't really seem to do anything to receive the gifts that Haymitch sends her. Haymitch watched The Hunger Games and observed what Katniss was doing and what exactly she needed and when she needed it. For instance, to gain the audience's attention and devotion for the "star crossed lovers of District 12", Haymitch sent Katniss broth to give to Peeta when he was in pain while he was in the cave to make the audience feel compassion for the couple.
Yes, there is quite a bit of fore shadowing in the hunger games. Theres a lot but I can give you some examples. Bread was introduced very early in the book, later on with Peeta you realize how important bread was. And it says that Katniss's mom ran away with a coal miner, even though she was from the merchant area. This fore shadows Katniss choosing Peeta over Gale.
Katniss and Peeta confronted Haymitch because he wasn't mentoring them. He was just sitting and drinking. They confronted him telling him that he needed to mentor him, and that they were fighters. This tells you that Haymitch didn't really mentor his tributes, as District 12 wasn't trained before The Hunger Games. They were too poor. But when Katniss and Peeta showed him that they were fighters and weren't willing to give up, he was willing to train them half sober.
Katniss Everdeen has a younger sibling--- named Primrose Everdeen, who gets drawn in the reaping, and Katniss forces herself to get up on the stage and go to The Hunger Games! She volunteers to go. Prim tells Katniss to try and win, so she is motivated to win!
The fact the people of District 12 don't clap for Katniss symbolizes a final gesture of rebellion and respect. At least in this small way, the people of the Seam can rebel against the Capitol, can refuse to give in to the Capitol's control. It's a act of rebellion against the Capitol yes, but also a example of respect to Katniss. They won't let the Capitol mock her with its cruel interpretation of this [the Hunger Games] as simply a game, something to celebrate, to enjoy.
Katniss gave Prim a goat for her tenth birthday.
Prim, Katniss's sister. She gave it to her because she wanted Prim to have it in case she died in the games.
Because when she shot an arrow at them, more specifically the roasted pig they were distracted by instead of paying attention to her, Katniss's feistiness was shown and that was what caused the Gamemakers to give her the highest score
In the beginning of chapter 7, Peeta and Katniss discuss their strategies they will use in the games. Peeta can lift and Katniss can shoot arrows and hunt. Then, they go into training with the strict rules to not show off, but to learn something new. Then, they go into their private sessions with the gamemakers and Katniss shoots a apple out of a pig's mouth with an arrow and walks out.
