What makes Turkish music authentic?

If you are talking about Classical Turkish music or Turkish Art Music its known as Turk Sanat Muzigi ; first of all they have different special instruments such as Ud , Kanun , etc. and each classic song has a different makam.

Makam means a concept of melodic creation that determines tonal relations, tessitura, starting tone, reciting tone, and the finalis, as well as an overall indication of the melodic contour and patterns deep meaning and emotion.

These makam's are mainly Nihavent , Hüzzam , Hicazkar , Hicaz and Uşşak

And the most important thing is lyrics have really deep emotions inside mostly wistful ; they reflect singers' or audiences' emotions. When audience listen and sing that songs with a good singer they feel relaxed cause songs can discharge them.
