well yes, Def Leppard. Their drummer Rick Allen was in drunken driving car accident around Christmas in 1984 right after recording "Pyromania" and his left arm was severed by his seat belt. The doctors tried to reattach it but it became gangrenous and they had to toss it. He helped design an electronic drum kit that let him drum again but he did eventually set aside alot of the triggers and start drumming on real skins. In the late 60's The Barbarians had a one armed drummer, and a song about said drummer, "Moulty".

In a car accident. The seatbelt lopped his arm off at the shoulder, and the doctors tried to reattach it but it got infected and had to be taken off again. The band, to their huge credit, never even thought about replacing him This last part is not entirely accurate. During the Hysteria tour, the band had a back-up drummer play with Rick Allen even though he had spent time learning to play without the use of his left arm. According to the band, one show when the back-up had arrived late due to a delayed flight, he essentially said to Rick "Looks like you don't really need me anymore."
