From what I've gathered in my research, it seems as if the only disadvantage is the inability to be used on sloped surfaces due to the fact that the mast is plumbed to 1:500. This means that the mast can only deviate horizontally 1 inch for every 500 inches vertically. And so work needs to be undertaken on the foundation to ensure exact horizontal levelling for tower cranes.
