"Don't Stop Believin'" was written about failure. When Journey first started out they did not have much commercial luck. Keyboardist Jonathan Cain would call his Dad, who encouraged him by saying "Don't stop believing or you're done, dude." Even the song itself had a rocky start, as it was released in England to lukewarm response, but became a smash hit in America when it was released in 1981.

it's about never stop believing in the things that seem to be impossible such as say there's a girl or guy you like and they might not notice you just don't stop believing that you can be together you know there really saying don't stop believing in yourself and your dreams.
