Gale also promises Katniss that if she dies in the arena that he will take care of her family.Catching Fire: Katniss and Gale have a budding romance. (so to speak) :) Katniss tells us the story (through first person narrative) of her first kiss with Gale that happened after she returned from the games. Katniss kisses Gale a second time when he is unconscious after being whipped. Gale comes to for a few seconds after that.Mockingjay: Katniss and Gale are at different points in their relationship throughout the book. At first, Katniss is very proud of Gale when she finds out that he saved almost 900 people from District 12 after it was destroyed by the Capitol. But Katniss and Peeta met when she was starving and she was loking in his garbage for stale bread or something of the sort, and Peeta burnt the bread so that he can give it to Katniss. Gale and Katniss' relationship was changed when she returned from the Hunger Games because she won and had to move to the victor's house, away from him. There are similarities between them because their fathers were killed in the same mine explosion, and they had to look after their families by hunting illegally and selling their possessions at the Hob. Katniss and Peeta's relationship was also changed when the Hunger Games was finished. Katniss was faking her love for Peeta, but he wasn't faking his for her. He felt hurt when he realized that she didn't love him in the way that he loved her. They never really talked so much when they got back to District 12.
