He later asks her if she really loves him, and she says 'Yes'. But later after the Games she's taken by surprise, and Peeta tells her that the 'love game' was fake only got the cameras which leavs Katniss is despair

She might not have "confessed" her love for Peeta in the cave. She was acting at first, but came to realize that she really did love him. So if there were no cameras, she would've never found out that she loved Peeta. And Gale would still be in love with Katniss. :D
