Interpretation of a lyric will differ from one person to another Ian Gillan would (probably) have wrote the lyric for this song and i dare say he would say it means this or that another person listening it would read something else into the lyric as it mentions death a lot but the last verse gives hope with the line
"Please lead the way so the unborn can play on some greener hill"
so maybe it's Ian Gillan looking at a world of fools who are ruining it for those who have to follow.
