"Reznor said in 1994 that he coined the name "Nine Inch Nails" because it "abbreviated easily", rather than for "any literal meaning". Other rumored explanations have circulated, alleging that Reznor chose to reference Jesus' crucifixion with nine-inch spikes, or Freddy Krueger's nine-inch fingernails."

I read an interview where Trent Reznor (please say you know who he is...) talked about this, and stated basically that "Nine Inch Nails" stood the "two-week" test, it sounded cool, and he liked how it abbreviated. It isn't cos of the Jesus crucifixion thing.
And NIN music is very eclectic. Usually described as Industrial, it ranges from soft piano and touching vocals to screaming lyrics and pounding guitar riffs.

Nine Inch Nails, or NIN for short. The Nine Inch Nails-Jane's Addiction bill last year had a great name.
Angel is not a song by Nine Inch Nails as many people believe. The band that made this song is called Vinyl Sun.
None of them.
no one should care bout nine inch nails... tom petty was better at it than them.. but the one who made it the best was Johnny cash!
The popular Nine Inch Nails song with the said lyrics "I wanna F*** you like an animal" is indeed titled "Closer". It is also derived from the lyric of the song (eg. "you get me closer to god")
