'Nana' is the story of two 20-year-old women who share the same name.

Nana "Hachi" Komatsu hopes that moving to Tokyo will help her make a clean start and leave her capricious love life behind her.

Nana Osaki, who arrives in the city at the same time, has plans to score big in the world of rock 'n' roll.

Although these two young women come from different backgrounds, they quickly become best friends.

Well, first off the manga is totally totally 100% better than the anime.

But the BIGGEST difference, is that the artist for the anime isn't the same for the manga (Natsuki Takaya who is way better at drawing than whoever did the anime) and Tohru's eyes are BLUE when they should be BROWN. The other characters also have a bit of change to them, but once again, its not the same artist.

Another difference, is that the anime doesn't go as far as the manga goes. There are 23 volumes, and 26 episodes, but Epsidoe 26 is what happens in volume 6. So the manga is longer and better:)

Then the anime changes up the episodes and what happens. For instance, in episode 6 (I believe it was 6, sorry if I'm wrong. its the one where Uo and Hana come to see Tohru in the Sohma's house) and in the anime Kyo, Yuki, and Shigure kept transforming while in the manga, it went smoothly and nothing happened. Then in episode 26, the anime added a bunch of additional things to it, such as Tohru finding Akito, which never happened in the anime, Yuki coming along to help Tohru with Kyo when he's in his monster form, Tohru went by herself in the manga, and afterwards, Tohru NEVER went to Akito's place and all the things that happened there, never happened. Also, in the anime Akito is supposed to die young for some reason, but in the manga that's NOT true, Akito is a fine normal person. Also, in the anime Akito is biologically a man, but in the manga Akito is biologically a woman, but that is not revealed til the end (her mother didn't think it was right for a woman to rule the Sohmas)

And the episodes in the anime change up a bit of what really happens in the manga, but theres not TOO big of a difference and the same sort of things happen.

If you want to see a VERY similar picture of how the anime looks a lot different than the manga, look at these two pictures:

that was the manga - original. how its supposed to be.

this is the anime:

same picture, just changed up. hopefully all that helped:)

oh yeah! i forgot. in the anime, on valentines kagura brings chocolate to kyo and he doesnt want to eat it, and tohru gives out chocolate, and kyo wont eat that, so then he eats it cuz shigure starts saying things, and later on shigure and tohru go out to give her chocolates to momiji, haru, hatori...etc. in the manga, kagura takes kyo to the movies, and he's all reluctant to go (i forget what volume this was it was a long time ago) and then shigure suggests that they make it a "double date" and that yuki and tohru go to see the movie too. so they go see the movie, and it was sorta funny, and tohru and kagura are crying but yuki and kyo were all bored, and on the way home it was funny. i like the manga version of valentines a whole lot better:)

I don't want to give any spoilers in answering this, but when reading the manga chapter 43 would be like the last episode of the anime (episode 47). Pretty much it goes more into detail on what happens, plus in the anime it kind of leaves you hanging with many questions, so I do suggest to read the manga.

An anime is like a cartoon or animation. Manga are the books that usually come before it. Basically manga is a book and the anime OS the show/movie.
